Publicity material for this event says:

The Poetry Society presents the latest in a series of events in partnership with the Royal Collection Trust, performed by a contemporary poet who has been commissioned to write a new poem in response to one or more exhibitions at The Queen’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace.

Spend an evening with award-winning poet Jamie McKendrick as he performs his works and premieres a new piece commissioned especially for this event: a poetic capriccio inspired by the art and architecture of Venice.

Paying close attention to Italian daily life mixed with intriguing stories from history, his entertaining and elegant poems draw in listeners using all the senses. His new poem has been written in response to the exhibition ‘Canaletto & the Art of Venice’, which runs from 19 May to 12 November.

The evening concludes with a private view of the exhibition and a complimentary glass of wine.

Tickets are available from The Queen's Gallery online ( or phone the Box Office on +44 (0)303 123 7302
