Belmont Poetry Prize - get involved! | 26-Apr-06

There is only one poetry prize in the UK that is for poems for children judged by children. You can be a judge of the Belmont Poetry Prize!

The organiser of the competition says:

"Primary schools everywhere are invited to take part in judging the Belmont Poetry Prize.  We want as many children as possible to read the five poems short-listed for the £500 prize and vote for their favourite.  The poem which gets the most votes - the children's choice - will be the winner.

Voting takes place online in September and taking part couldn?t be easier.

Go to www.belmontartscentre.org.uk and register your school to take part in the voting.
2 Download the five poems which will be emailed to you on 11 September.
3 Read the poems with your pupils, get them talking about which they like best and why - make the most of the opportunity for a whole school focus on poetry.
4 Register your pupils' votes on line by 29 September.

The winning poem will be published on the Belmont Arts Centre website on National Poetry Day, 5 October."

If you like poetry, and you want to become a judge this year, why not ask your teacher to get your whole class involved?

You can also send us reviews of poems you have read here.
