The Children's collection at the Poetry Library continues to grow with lots of amazing new poetry books for younger readers added recently.
Timeliest of all surely must be When Granny won Olympic Gold. Graham Denton's anthology is crammed full of weird and wonderful poems on the subject of the Great Games. We're not sure that Chocolate Kayaking is a real Olympic sport but we want to give it a go...
Meanwhile, the driver of the Rapido Van needs to deliver her packages through the charming landscapes created by Joelle Jouvet. Lift the flaps in Rapido's Next Stop to find out which package to deliver at each location. Jean-Luc Fromental's rhymes (translated by Antony Shugaar) help us on our way.
The Worst Princess doesn't need a van to get her around - she's got a dragon. And she doesn't need a prince either. Anna Kemp and Sara Ogilvie's poetic tale of the princess who dumps her prince for 'a fearsome dragon with flashing eyes' is a beautiful beast, or, maybe even a beastiful beauty. You decide...
After all that poetry excitement we might need a bedtime poem and Susan Marie Swanson's medal-winning The House at Night may be just the thing. Swanson's poem (combined with Beth Krommes's delightful pictures) winningly captures the dream-like mystery of night time through the eyes of the very young. A bedtime board book for all ages, we feel.
