Lemonade and Other Poems Squeezed from a Single Word by Bob Raczka | 30-Sep-17

Final Staff Pick from our 2016 Poetry Library Open Day.

Our 2017 Open Day takes places on Sunday 15th October where we unveil this year's staff picks!

More details here:

Lemonade and other poems squeezed from a single word / Bob Raczka ; illustrated by Nancy Doniger - New York: Roaring Brook Press, 2011.

There are times when we need to take a well-earned break from the usual poetry giants and refresh our thinking by seeing the world one word at a time. Bob Raczka was inspired by the one-word poetry of experimental concrete poet Andrew Russ.

The building blocks of each word are reduced to syllables, letters, vowels, creating fizzy riddles, enigmatic anagrams and poignant poems, all sensitively illustrated by Nancy Doniger.

This is word play at its best.
