New aquisitions

Cobbings/Grimes/Sitwell/Veer | 30-Aug-11

As part of the current exhibition, Art on Poetry, here at the Poetry Library, Oona Grimes has imagined a visual dialogue between poets Bob Cobbing and Edith Sitwell.  The resulting book, "Edith mixes concrete",  will be added to the Poetry Library collection this autumn.

Meanwhile the relationship between Cobbing and his wife Jennifer Pike Cobbing (also known as jennypikcob)  was a genuine, real-world collaboration for the 39 years of their marriage. Both produced large amounts of work independently but one gets the feeling that they fed off each other's creativity also.

'We lived and loved, and shared lots of things, including work to a degree,' says jennypikcob in the introduction to a new selection of her visual work, "The conglomerisation of wot", from Veer Books, the publishing venture associated with Birkbeck College's Contemporary Poetics Research Centre.

A previous selection of her work, "Scrunch", also from Veer, came out in a second edition in 2010. Both are available for loan at the Poetry Library.
