'Hospitality' at St Saviours | 26-May-05

The poetry reading circle organised by the Poetry Library before we closed has been given a new lease of life thanks to the hospitality of St Saviour's Church in Knightsbridge.

We chose hospitality as the theme for the day, and people attending read the following poems to the group:

'Mrs Malone' by Eleanor Farjeon
'The House of Hospitalities' and 'At Tea' by Thomas Hardy
'A Luncheon' by Max Beerbohm
'Going in to Dinner' by Edward Shanks
'On Himself' by Robert Herrick
'The Snake' by D.H. Lawrence
'How Sweet I Roamed' and 'The Sick Rose' by William Blake
'Adults Only, No children' by Hazel Frost Bunte
An extract from 'Taras on Parnassus', a Bielorussian poem, author unknown, translated by Vera Rich
'O My Thoughts' by Taras Schevchenko
'Nest Eggs' by Robert Louis Stevenson
'Winter' by William Shakespeare
'The First Men on Mercury' by Edwin Morgan
'Black Kid in a New Place' and 'A Toast for Everybody Who is Growin' by James Berry
'The Congress of the Insomniacs' by Charles Simic
'Preparations' (Anonymous)

The group will next meet Saturday 16 July, 2005 at 12.45. The theme will be SUMMER. Everyone is welcome. Bring poems you have enjoyed on this subject, or just sit back and listen to other people's choices. For more details, please phone Miriam on 020 7921 0664.
