Poetry Library Book Club - Derek Mahon at 70 | 27-Sep-11

This November Derek Mahon celebrates his 70th birthday and our Poetry Library Book Club marks the occasion by looking at his work. Mahon is one of Northern Ireland's most significant contemporary poets, though his time away from his homeland has resulted in a stance much more international and cosmopolitan than his peers. We refer to the text of his New Collected Poems (Gallery Press, 2011) and discuss work from his much-admired poem 'A Disused Shed in Co. Wexford' through to poems from his latest collection An Autumn Wind, described in The Guardian as a 'triumphant late flowering'.

This will be a bit different to our previous book clubs in that it will start at 6pm and last for an hour to allow people to get along to the Carol Ann Duffy reading in the Queen Elizabeth Hall at 7.30pm.
