Poet Sebastian Barker has died | 18-Feb-14

Poet Sebastian Barker has died at the age of 68. Celebrated for his lyrical poetry, Barker also championed poetry: from 1988 to 1992 he chaired the Poetry Society, he was on the executive committee of Pen, and was editor of The London Magazine from 2002 to 2008. He will be much missed by the British poetry community.

His wife, the poet Hilary Davies, told us:
"He died having achieved everything he had set out to achieve, and completely fulfilled as a great spiritual poet.  On the Wednesday night before he died he gave a magnificent reading from his latest collection, The Land of Gold, (available from Enitharmon Press) in Trinity College, Cambridge, with myself and two other poets helping. There was a celebratory dinner with friends and family afterwards in which the mood was euphoric.  In this we feel very fortunate."
