Next Generation Poets 2014 | 22-May-14

Next Generation Poets 2014 will be a big promotion following on from New Generation Poets in 1994 and Next Generation Poets in 2004, which launched the careers of many of today's leading British and Irish poets. The Poetry Book Society, backed by funding from ACE GftA and the T S Eliot Estate, will seek to find the 20 most exciting new poets who have published their first collection in the decade between 1 May 2004 and 30 June 2014 and then undertake a major promotion of the poets. Publishers are asked to submit their eligible poets. There is no age restriction but self-published work will not be eligible. The call for submissions went out on 12 May and submissions must reach the PBS by Friday 5 June 2014.

The judging panel will comprise poets Ian McMillan (Chair), Caroline Bird, Robert Crawford (from New Generation), Paul Farley (from Next Generation) and Clare Pollard.

The list of 20 Next Generation Poets 2014 will be announced on 9 September. A major pr campaign will follow and there will be a reading group scheme and a dedicated website with a video gallery of the poets, discussions, blogs and poems. Twenty-three events will follow across the country, running through to March 2015, when there will be a big celebration at a major London venue at which all the poets will be invited to read.
