T S Eliot Prize Reading Groups Scheme | 18-Nov-14

The T S Eliot Prize Reading Groups Scheme provides three poems from each collection, together with reading group notes, biographies and photos of the poets. There's a Competition for Reading Groups with prizes of tickets to the T S Eliot Prize Readings in the Royal Festival Hall in January or a visit from a shortlisted poet.

The T S Eliot Prize Shadowing Scheme is a great way to introduce secondary school students to the best new contemporary poetry by shadowing the judges of the T S Eliot Prize. Two poems from each of the ten shortlisted collections are available to download from 5 November. The Shadowing Scheme is run by the Poetry Book Society in partnership with the English and Media Centre. Students are encouraged to read the poems and to take part in a poll to vote for their choice of winner.

There is also a competition for individual 'A' level students to write the best 500 word rationale for their choice of poet, which will be judged by this year?s Chair of the judges, Helen Dunmore. Prizes for the winning student include a cash prize of £200, tickets to the T S Eliot Readings and the Award Ceremony in January 2015, with the chance to meet the winning poet, and a complete set of the 10 shortlisted titles. The Scheme starts on 5 November and a teachers' guide is already available on the emagazine website - www.emagazine.org.uk.
