Bury Text festival: throughout 2005 | 11-Aug-05

The Bury Text Festival Takes place from 19th March to 27th November 2005 and aims to merge the boundaries between visual art, literature and contemporary popular culture. From advertising to road signs, from logos to global branding to digital communications, text forms the visual and linguistic background to our existence. Faced with a modern world where the written word or sign consumes and clutters virtually every environment, how can poets and text artists work with language? The Text festival attempts to tackle these questions and more. Events at Bury Art Gallery include a talk on the poetry of Dom Sylvester on 27th September. Exhibitions include Shaun Pickard (6th August - 16th October), Different Alphabets (17th September - 27th November) and the Lawrence Weiner Poster Archive (25th June - 4th September). Visit for programme details.
