TITLE Duppy Stories

Submitting work for Duppy Stories

 
Artists are invited to submit work based on the title. The work should be of high quality, imaginative in content and innovative in form and presentation.

The Brixton Art Gallery Proposes t host Duppy Stories exhibition and performance based around the Afro-Caribbean Duppy or ghost stories that occupies a central place in the rich oral history of the black Diaspora.
In the Caribbean, Duppy Stories function as a form of collective expression when the community get together, for example when harvest is being processed.
The stories, often humorous, touches on a wide range of Afro Caribbean cultural themes such as journeys,dreams, encounters with mythical animals,  ancestral encounters, ancestral sacred place and rituals.

MEDIA

Could be sculpture, construction, installations, paint, photography, ceramics,video installation
poetry, stories, songs, comedy sketch. etc.


SOME SUGGESTIONS

Artwork should not necessarily be paintings for the wall.
Form should be of high quality finish and presentation and could include any of the following:- book, door, mirror, box, bed, window, wall hanging, pillow, bowl, pakki, water, perspex text, glass etching, poster, recorded sound, live music. etc
