Discovering a New Voice: Saltire Bursary 2016 Discovering a New Voice: Saltire Bursary 2016 | 19-Aug-16

The Scottish Book Trust are collaborating with the Saltire Society on a bursary to discover an emerging minority ethnic voice in fiction, poetry or spoken word.

Through audience research and consultation with writers, Scottish Book Trust has identified that its current opportunities and programmes need to reach more people from minority ethnic communities. The lack of diversity in the publishing industry and the arts has an impact on the literature available to readers and potential writers. Everyone should be represented in literature and literature should reflect the diverse range of voices in our society.

Please note that this opportunity is only open to those living in Scotland.

The successful awardee will receive:

  • A £2000 bursary to be presented at the Saltire Awards 2016
  • Manuscript appraisal (or equivalent)
  • Meeting with a literary agent during Book Week Scotland (21 - 27 November 2016)
  • Meeting with a publisher from the Saltire Publisher of the Year award list
  • Reasonable travel expenses
The successful awardee will be expected to:

  • Attend the Saltire ceremony (November 2016)
  • Write a blog for Scottish Book Trust
  • Write a blog (or alternative social media input) for the Saltire Society
  • Make themselves available to the press and broadcast media before, during and immediately after the bursary, and to Scottish Book Trust for podcast/videocast and other marketing activities
