Forward Prizes 2016: winners announced | 21-Sep-16

Trinidadian poet Vahni Capildeo has won the 2016 Forward prize for poetry (£15,000) for Measures of Expatriation (Carcanet).

The winning collection, which explores ideas of belonging and home, was shortlisted alongside works from Alice Oswald, Ian Duhig, Choman Hardi and Denise Riley. Capildeo's win makes it three years in a row that a Caribbean poet has won the prestigious prize. She follows Kei Miller and Claudia Rankine, both Jamaican-born, who each took the main prize respectively in 2014 and 2015.

Tiphanie Yanique won the Felix Dennis Prize for Best First Collection with Wife (Peepal Tree Press) and Sasha Dugdale won the prize for Best Single Poem for 'Joy' (PN Review).
