Out of Place | 10-Oct-16

Out of Place 2017 will be a six-month exploration of the many ways to use poetry and words as inspiration for musical composition. Nicola Burnett Smith will be collaborating with four other composers as part of this project, leading to the creation of five unique new pieces for performance in June 2017.

Submissions of poetry and text are invited on the over-arching theme: out of place. The deadline is Tuesday 15 November 2016.

Nicola Burnett Smith has been working as an actor-musician-singer, musical director and composer since 1987. Appearances include the Purcell Rooms, Royal National Theatre, national tours and repertory theatre, plus opera and contemporary music festivals.

For Out of Place 2017 she is creating a team of five composer-musicians who will each choose a submission on the theme that inspires them to create a musical piece. The team of composers will then embark upon a series of workshops as part of a supportive process of composition culminating in a performance of all five pieces in June 2017 at a venue soon to be announced.

The successful submissions of poetry and writing will be chosen by the composers in November 2016.
