The Scottish Poetry Library is seeking a motivated and innovative individual to join its small but dedicated team as Senior Librarian to manage and develop their physical and digital collections, and library service staff. The successful candidate will be a professionally qualified librarian. She or he will produce and roll-out a Collections Policy and Digital Services Plan, reflecting the diversity of SPL audiences, as part of their strategy of widening access to the Library. A commitment to providing high-quality customer services to develop a welcoming environment is important. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an affinity for and understanding of the cultural, social and wellbeing benefits brought about by public engagement and participation with poetry and poets. The post is full-time and based in the SPL iconic building, just off Edinburgh's Royal Mile.
The SPL is a unique national resource and advocate for poetry. They host a distinctive collection of lending and reference books and printed material in English, Scots, Gaelic and international languages, as well as online resources and audio-visual material. The SPL is also home to the Edwin Morgan Archive, along with other poetry gems. They support the programme of the Makar, Jackie Kay - Scotland's National Poet. Major projects include National Poetry Day (Scotland), Poetry By Heart (Scotland), and Living Voices. Their events programme showcases leading national and international poets, and reading and writing activities with a broad range of groups reflecting the SPL's support for promoting diversity and inclusiveness.
