Sean O'Brien wins TS Eliot Prize 2007 | 15-Jan-08

The TS Eliot Prize 2007 has been awarded to Sean O'Brien by Chair Peter Porter and judges W N Herbert and Sujata Bhatt.

Sean O'Brien was presented with a cheque for £15,000 - the biggest cash prize for poetry in the UK.

For the first time each shortlisted poet recieved £1,000 in recognition of their outstanding work.

Chair of judges Peter Porter said:

'Sean O'Brien is undoubtedly a major artist whose winning collection, The Drowned Book, is fierce, funny and deeply melancholy.'
