Popshot calls for submissions | 22-Oct-08

Popshot is a brand new illustrated poetry magazine calling for submissions for its first issue.
The magazine will hold 50+ poems, written to a theme, which are then individually sent to illustrators who then illustrate the poem according to their interpretation of the piece.
Popshot aims to bring poetry to a wider audience, making it more accessible to people who hold an interest in poetry but find it difficult to appreciate or decipher within other forms. We aim to provide a place for poets to be creative and original within themes, with the support of illustration. Popshot is a backlash against the stereotypical view of poetry being interpreted as a subculture only available to intellectuals and tweed jackets.
Popshot is looking for submissions for its first issue.
The theme is 'The Wonder of the Ordinary'.
We look for poems with originality. We don't want carbon copies of poetry classics. Write honestly and write what you're proud of. Poems with a focus on rhythm, rhyme and repetition are preferred but this definitely doesn't mean obscure free verse is overlooked.
Poems must be previously unpublished, no longer than 25 lines and written to the theme.
Please also include a paragraph or two about who you are and a short explanation of the poem/ itself, why you came to write it and a brief summary of what it means.
Please submit poems by email to by the 31st January 2009.
