T S Eliot prize goes to Derek Walcott | 26-Jan-11

Derek Walcott has won the TS Eliot prize for his collection, White Egrets. Born in St Lucia in 1930, the poet won the Nobel prize for literature in 1992. Anne Stevenson, chair of the judging panel, described the collection as "moving and technically flawless". The award of £15,000 was presented at a ceremony in London by T S Eliot's widow, Valerie. The T S Eliot prize is organised by the Poetry Book Society.
