Ginsberg and The Beats at the Southbank | 07-Feb-11

Those who joined us at the Poetry Library's Special Edition event on Ginsberg and Howl will have heard Mark Ford make reference to Ginsberg as a photographer, an interest which is also featured in the movie Howl. You may like to know that our neighbours at the National Theatre are currently showing over 70 of Allen Ginsberg's photographs.

In this free exhibition courtesy of Corbis and The Allen Ginsberg Trust, visitors will be able to trace the early years of Ginsberg, Jack Kerouac and William Burroughs as they moved towards the centre of the American literary consciousness. Later photographs feature Ginsberg's New York peers and a small selection of works by other photographers charts the influence of the Beats. The exhibition runs until 3 April 2011.
