British Library buys Wendy Cope's email archive | 21-Apr-11

The British Library has announced that it has paid Wendy Cope £32,000 for her archive.

The archive contains 15 storage boxes of material containing notebooks, drafts of poems and songs that Cope wrote whilst working as a teacher.

It also contains 40,000 emails, some of which contain exchanges between Cope and former poet laureate Andrew Motion, regarding his acceptance of the laureateship.

According to Cope, some of the emails are "not interesting at all", but others contain information that will be held in a classified "closed" file.
