Peter Reading dies aged 65 | 26-Nov-11

Bloodaxe Books have reported the death of Peter Reading, who passed away on the 17th November 2011. Reading had been ill for some months.

Born in 1946, Reading worked as a teacher in Liverpool and then as a weightbridge operator in Shropshire, a job that gave him time to think and write. He published many collections of poetry over the course of his career, including 'Work in Regress' (1997), which was shortlisted for the TS Eliot prize, and won a number of other awards including the Whitbread Prize for Poetry in 1986, a Cholmondeley Award, and the Dylan Thomas Award in 1983.

Reading is the only British poet to receive the Lannan Award for Poetry twice - in 1997 and 2004 - and has also recorded his life's work for the Lannan Foundation's archive.
