Couplet Books Seeks Submissions and Support | 30-Mar-12

Couplet Books seeks submissions and financial support.

The publicity material for this project:

"Following on from the success of We Eat Poets!, the critically acclaimed fine food and poetry event which ran 4 times in London last year, Owen Davidson has teamed up with Jon Stone and Kirsten Irving, co-founders of Fuselit Magazine and Sidekick Books, to launch a new venture - Couplet Books.

Couplet Books is a new poetry press which publishes poetry written in response to a particular object, idea, or place. Its first project is the Poetry Companion Series; a range of alternative, poetic, visitors guides for various places in the UK which will blend together work by local poets and special assignments by a wider pool of established poets. These pamphlets and books will be available at local shops and further afield, growing in to a collectable series.

To pilot the concept, Couplet Books will be sending a number of poets on special assignments to Hampstead in North London, and charging them to find inspiration about the places they visit in order to produce a series of poems which will appear in the Hampstead Poetry Companion; the first in the series. In addition to these commissioned poems, there is an open submissions process for any poet who has written something about the local area. The collection will feature a variety of styles, and the deadline for submissions is Thursday the 12th of April.

A range of rewards for individuals and businesses are on offer in exchange for pledging to support the project. Everyone who pledges at this stage will appear in the acknowledgements of the book, and receive four limited edition postcards in addition to an e-copy of the book. As the value of pledges increase, so does the level of reward.

A launch event featuring a selection of the poets reading from the collection, as well as Prosecco and nibbles, will take place at Keats House in Hampstead on Thursday the 17th of May. Tickets are available through the funding website only, so do hurry, as this closes on Friday the 8th of April."
