Finally the rhetoric bores you | 05-Sep-05

Poem that begins

"Finally the rhetoric bores you, and you?re slinking off

Towards a keener admission of having failed

Than your failure would seem to inspire you to."

This poem apeared on a Cambridge University Entrance Examination paper for Eng Lit sometime between 1969 and 1971, I think, along with a Hart Crane poem, "By a peninsula the wanderer sat and sketched the uneven valley graves".  Both were untitled and unattributed on the paper.
