'When I was young, perhaps naive' | 03-Aug-07

The verses below are the beginning of some 16 verses(?) from a 'bitter' love poem.  I do not remember the author and only vaguely the other verses.

When I was young, perhaps naive,
I looked at you and did believe
The sweetest fruit upon the tree
You were my dear, as I to thee.

Then you were Romeo, I Juliet,
Forbidden love I'd not forget.
Tho' circumstances forced us to part
You lingered always in my heart.
