Because my mother and father hurt each other, sooner or later I will abandon you | 24-Oct-07

Can anyone help identify a poem which contains the following line, or something similar:

"Because my mother and father hurt each other, sooner or later I will abandon you"

The enquirer thinks it may be from a poem by Nina Cassian.  I speed read 'Life sentence : slelected poems' by Cassian, edited by William Jay Smith, but didn't find it.

Do you know this poem? Do you have any clues to help us find it?

Comments:

This is one of my favorite poems, because it is evocative and powerful, despite it's short, terse language. It's called "Because of my Mother and Father" by Kate Bingham.

Katelyn Lovejoy

Thank you to Katelyn Lovejoy for identifying this poem. It is in Kate Bingham's collection "Cohabitation" published by Seren, 1998
