Fate - Our lives are carved out for us | 01-Feb-08

Enquirer is trying to find out the author of a poem she learnt at school in the 1930s and what book it is from.  There are a few lines she can't remember:

Our lives are carved out for us
Long before we are born
And as they are carved, we lived them
Each day from morn 'til morn

Some lives have wondrous carvings
With patterns closely clipped...

And yet we grumble often
When our lives are dull and plain
If only we'd accept our fate
Ours would be all to gain

You can't ride over destiny
No matter how you try
You will live the life that's planned for you
Until the day you day
