I wonder if it's a slightly distorted memory of the line: "The cat has died at Ivy Dene."

This comes in the first scene of Auden and Isherwood's The Ascent of F6, as the opening item in a list of pieces of local news and gossip - "...The Crowthers' pimply son has passed Matric,/St Neots has put up light blue curtains,/Frankie is walking out with Winnie/And Georgie loves himself..."
