School room clock | 21-May-10

Our enquirer writes:

My dad went to school in Ireland in the 1920s.
He is long deceased, but he used to talk of a poem with a line that spoke of either sad memories or fond memories come over me, with references to a school room clock.
It would have been in a lower level book in Irish schools in the 1920s.
Would appreciate any leads!

Comments:

Try 'Oft in the Stilly night ' an old song or perhaps a poem whose author I cannot remember.
