The Kangaroo escaped the zoo.
"Goodbye zoo!" cried Kangaroo.
Cleared the wall with one clean jump,
Leaped across with a great big thump.

This is from The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, and quoted in the Readers' Digest. Could it be this?

Thanks, Susan, but the scansion doesn't work.... and it rings no bells with those in the family who can, and frequently do, recite portions of this poem.... first published in late 1800's we think.
