Comments:

The poem is by Linda Ellis, copyright 1996 and is called 'The Dash'. Linda has a website, and the poem can be found on it. The 'dash' refers to the particular punctuation mark one gets between dates, eg 1963-2014. The poem encourages us to make the most of our life between birth and death, and all that we do is represented by the 'dash'. I heard it at a funeral too, and it made me think.
