Comments:

This sounds like Moonlit Apples by John Drinkwater. It can be found in the 1936 edition of The Oxford Book of Modern Verse.

Many thanks for your help. It was really good to have your help and I am now relishing this lovely poem again, its imagery and the sense of silence. I can also now see how clever its rhyme scheme is and will explore further John Drinkwater's work.
